New Service Name

From July 1 this year, Lower Mountains Family Support Service will become known as

GATEWAY FAMILY SERVICES

Why Gateway ?

• We are a GATEWAY for people accessing services in the Blue Mountains and Penrith. Over 60% of referrals to this service are self referrals. People come to this service because they know that it is a place where they can get help, and even if it is something that we do not provide directly we will help them to find the support they need from another organisation.
• We assist people to find their own solutions– we are a ‘GATEWAY- a means of helping families to identify the changes they want and work towards them in a constructive and respectful way.
•We are both a gateway to the mountains and the plains. A gateway operates in both directions.
• We actively work to bring services together, to work collaboratively to strengthen families & community

Changing a name that has been in use for 20 years is a big decision , but one that we hope will help us to grow our service in both quality and reach of service delivery. Later in the year, we will celebrate our 20th Anniversary and while it will be sad to say goodbye to a name that has become synonymous with caring, compassion and quality in our community we do believe that this new identify will help us to grow what so many faithful people have supported over the first twenty years of its life.

Celebrating Children Fun Days -October, 2009

Funding for two fun days was provided through the Community Support Expenditure scheme - Glenbrook Panthers Bowling Club.

The first was cancelled due to 'big red' the dust storm that engulfed Sydney and will be re-scheduled to early 2010.

Our second day at Blaxland was a great day with many many families enjoying the chidlren's actvities and a chance to find out about local services that support children and families.

A special feature was the paint the Blue Read Mascot Billie Booksie who kept the toddlers enthralled during the special story times through the morning.
